Rangers are considering making a move for Northern Ireland goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey.

The 22-year-old certainly did himself no harm at all on Saturday night putting in a superb performance against Italy in Pisa.

Nigel Worthington’s side, littered with youngsters and Irish League players, lost 3-0 to the world champions in the friendly, though it would have been many more but for Tuffey’s heroics.

The Partick Thistle number one made a host of high class saves, including a brilliant penalty stop from Gianpao Pazzini.

It was an impressive way to end an excellent season for Banbridge man Tuffey, who has shone for Patrick in the Scottish first division over the last nine months.

Tuffey’s club displays have put Rangers on red alert and their interest will have been heightened by what they witnessed at the weekend.

The Ibrox outfit have Neil Alexander and Allan McGregor battling for the goalkeeper’s jersey at present, but the future of the latter remains uncertain after his fall-out with the Scottish FA earlier this year.

Hearts, Hibs and Swanasea are also believed to be interested in Tuffey, but he would find it hard to resist Rangers who already have Northern Ireland internationals Steve Davis, Kyle Lafferty and Andrew Little at the club.

Rangers are also keen on WBA’s Chris Brunt, wanted by Fulham, and are keeping an eye on Warren Feeney, who is on loan with Dundee United from Swansea. Source - Belfast Telegraph
