RANGERS are on the trail of Argentina hardman Leandro Cufre as they try to solve their problem left-back position.

Boss Walter Smith had the Monaco defender watched six times in the second half of last season and is desperate to find a specialist left-back who also poses an attacking threat.

Cufre, who is equally comfortable in central defence, boasts an impressive CV having spent four seasons in Serie A with Roma before joining Monaco two years ago for £2.5million.

The 30-year-old, who has four caps for his country, has 12 months remaining on his contract although sources in France indicate he's keen to secure one final big pay day before heading back to Argentina to finish his career. Source - Daily Record
