St Etienne have moved to play down suggestions Pascal Feinduno will leave the club this summer.
The Guinean international was understood to have been granted permission to depart the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard.
But Verts chairman Bernard Caiazzo has ruled out an easy exit for Feinduno, who should interest a host of clubs.
"Indeed Pascal had an agreement to leave," Caiazzo said in the French press.
"But he is fine at St Etienne and there will be a nice challenge next season.
"Believe me he has not left yet.
"Anyway, Feinduno will cost €6million (£4million)."
Spanish trio Atletico Madrid, Deportivo La Coruna and Sevilla are all big fans of the talented playmaker.

RANGERS are lining up a £4m bid for Saint-Etienne's Guinean striker Pascal Feindouno this summer. The 26-year-old is a friend and former team-mate of Rangers's latest recruit, Jean-Claude Darcheville, and Walter Smith wants to reunite the pair next season.
Feindouno's agent, Amadou Diaby, has confirmed the interest from Ibrox while the player himself admitted that the chance to play again with Darcheville, whom he partnered at Lorient in 2001 and Bordeaux in the following three seasons, was a tempting one.
"Rangers are a huge club, and Jean-Claude is my friend, so this could be tempting for me," Feindouno admitted. "The Scottish league is very physical, and that would be a real challenge for me, but it would allow me to play in the Champions League."
Feindouno burst on to the French scene as a teenager and he ended his first spell at Bordeaux by scoring the goal that clinched them the French league title in 1999.
The right-footer has played as an attacking midfielder this season, scoring nine goals for mid-table Saint-Etienne, but he can also play as a second forward. He is seen as one of the most talented players in the French league, but his lack of consistency has stopped other clubs making moves for him. He has been linked with Spanish trio Sevilla, Valencia and Deportivo la Coruna, so it would be a huge coup were Smith to sign him.
"We know that Rangers are interested, but they are not the only club," said Diaby. "Rangers could yet be a good solution for Pascal. They are obviously a very big club, with a big tradition. The fact that Jean-Claude Darcheville will be playing for them next season is also a good thing. Saint-Etienne are ready to let Pascal go, they have set a price at £4m, but even this could be negotiable."

St Etienne playmaker Pascal Feindouno has claimed he would relish a move to Rangers.
Reports in the French press suggest the Ibrox club are in pole position to land the Guinean star with winger Libor Sionko possibly moving in the opposite direction.
Feindouno has also been linked to Spanish clubs Deportivo La Coruna, Levante and Valencia but his friendship with Glasgow-bound Bordeaux striker Jean-Claude Darcheville could make the difference.
Feindouno said: "Rangers are a huge club and Jean-Claude is my friend so this could be tempting for me.
"The Scottish League is very physical and that would be a real challenge. But it would allow me to play in the Champions League."
Feindouno is valued at around £4million which would be out of Rangers' reach, although the player's agent insists there is room for negotiation.
"We know Rangers are interested, but they are not the only club," said Amadou Diaby.
"However, Rangers could be a good solution for Pascal. They are obviously a big club with a big tradition.
"The fact Jean-Claude Darcheville will be playing for them next season is a good thing.
