Rangers are reported to be tracking Lens striker Daniel Cousin.

Reports emanating from France claim Rangers are lining up a move for Cousin.

Cousin is thought to be looking to leave Lens after growing increasingly frustrated with his role at the club.

Rangers are believed to have asked about taking Cousin on loan, but Lens rejected the option.

Lens are thought to be only willing to consider letting Cousin leave on a permanent basis after the 30-year-old fell out with the club's fans last term.

Guy Roux has confirmed Cousin will not feature in this weekend's Intertoto Cup clash with Chornomorets due to his difficulties with Sang-et-Or fans.

"Considering his personal situation, I had daily talks with him," Roux told L'Equipe.

"After a last thought during last night, I decided to not play him in the team and club's interest." Source - Sky Sports News

Lens striker Daniel Cousin is 'excited' by the prospect of a move to Rangers.

Cousin is being lined up to join the SPL giants after previously admitting he is desperate to quit his current club after becoming a target for angry fans.

He has been linked with Bolton Wanderers, Recreativo and Valladolid, having expressed an interest in moving to England or Spain.

But Cousin is set for a switch to Scottish football after the experienced forward revealed he is waiting for Rangers to agree a fee with Lens.

"I am really excited about this opportunity and all I want to do is get to Scotland and sign for Rangers," Cousin told the Daily Record.

"I am ready to go right now, but first the clubs must reach an agreement.

"I hope this can be done very soon and maybe in the next two days I can fly to Glasgow.

"It's so exciting for me because they are such a big club and I will have the chance to win trophies and play in the Champions League.

"I know there are already some French players in the team - guys such as Jean-Claude Darcheville and Brahim Hemdani - and I would like to join them there.

"I feel my style of play would be really suited to Scottish football. If I didn't think I could be a success with Rangers, I would not be so excited about joining them."

Meanwhile, reports in France claim Lens could move for Manchester City flop Georgios Samaras as a replacement for Cousin. Source - Sky Sports News

4 August 2007

RANGERS have stepped up their bid to sign Lens striker Daniel Cousin.

Ibrox boss Walter Smith is keen on the Gabon international, and last week failed in an attempt to sign him on a season-long loan.

However Gers officials have now tabled an offer of around £700,000 for the 30-year-old, who has been with Lens since 2004.

That sum is close to the one million euros sought by the French first division club, and they are poised to let him leave.

Cousin, who has dual French nationality, is not wanted by incoming Lens coach Guy Roux - and club chiefs have told the 6'1'' frontman that transfer talks with Rangers are making good progress.

Cousin recently said he is eager to join Jean-Claude Darcheville and Brahim Hemdani as part of the Ibrox club's French contingent.

And he is now set to become Smith's 10th signing in a summer of frenzied transfer activity. Cousin, who was born in the Gabonese capital Libreville, has previously played for French sides Martigues, Niort and Le Mans.

He has made over 100 appearances in the country's first division, scoring 37 goals. Source - Daily Express
