Monaco are trying to fend off interest from Rangers and Tottenham to keep hold of central defender Francois Modesto.

The 27-year-old has impressed this season for the Principality club, filling in for the injured Sebastien Squillaci.

Spurs sent a scout to watch him against Paris Saint Germain earlier this month and a favourable report is understood to have been lodged, while new Rangers boss Paul Le Guen is also thought to be a keen admirer.

Monaco are aware of the interest and are now looking to tie him down to a new deal.

Modesto admits he will even sign a new deal or quit The Stade Louis II.

"Anyway, either I prolong or I leave at the end of the season," said Modesto.
