Rangers have been invited to swoop for Belgian hitman Emile Mpenza in January. The Ibrox club had a £6.5 million move knocked back for the former Schalke ace in 2000. But Mpenza’s current club, Al-Rayyen of Qatar, are looking to offload some of their expensive foreign imports.

Reports suggest the 28-year-old striker may reach a mutual agreement to terminate his deal. And, while Mpenza is also being targeted by French cracks Bordeaux and two Russian sides, his agent, Rachid Tajmout, revealed the player would love a move to Ibrox.

He said “Emile has spoken of his respect for Rangers in the past and British football would be his preferred choice if he must move on.

“He is very much in the mould of Sydney Govou, who played under Paul le Guen at Lyon, so he would suit the manager’s system.

“Emile would thrive in the Scottish game as he is strong, aggressive and direct. Source - The People
