Rangers look poised to sign Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd after having an offer accepted by the Rugby Park club. Ibrox manager Alex McLeish has been given permission to speak to the 22-year-old, who has also been targeted by Sheffield Wednesday. Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston said: "I am pleased to say we reached a successful conclusion after talks and we have agreed a fee with Rangers.
"It is close to what we are looking for, which was £500,000." Boyd's agent Raymond Sparkes refused to be drawn on the transfer fee but confirmed that the player would begin negotiations on Thursday. "We will be speaking with Rangers this afternoon but I cannot say whether I foresee any problems developing," said Sparkes. "We will listen to what Rangers have got to say and then see if that suits both parties.

KILMARNOCK last night pleaded with Rangers not to force them into accepting a penny-pinching offer for Kris Boyd which could plunge the club deeper into financial crisis.
Chairman Michael Johnston confirmed Record Sport's exclusive yesterday that the Ibrox club have officially tabled a cut-price £200,000 bid for the SPL's top scorer.
Now we can also reveal Cardiff City have joined Sheffield Wednesday in lodging an offer worth more than double that sum for the talented 22-year-old.
But Boyd has set his heart on joining his boyhood heroes and is set to hold out for a move to Ibrox - even if it means waiting until the summer when he can leave on a Bosman.
It's a nightmare scenario for a club which is battling to save itself from extinction and can't afford to do without the kind of cash on offer from across the border.
And Johnston admits he is now facing up to the most critical and difficult decision of his Rugby Park reign - unless Rangers return with a more generous bid. He said: "We have had an offer from Rangers which, I told them before they made it, wasn't going to be enough. Source - Daily Record

Rangers are reportedly ready to step in and snatch Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd from under the noses of Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls had a bid for the young Scottish striker accepted by Killie over the weekend and Boyd has been given permission to speak with the Hillsborough outfit. However, Rangers are also in the picture and Killie are waiting for the SPL champions to show their hand. "We've had preliminary discussions with Rangers but they haven't made any serious approaches," Killie chairman Michael Johnston told the Scottish Sun. "It would be fair to say Sheffield Wednesday's offer is substantially higher."I told Rangers as soon as they made contact what we're looking for but they've not come up with anything close yet. "In the summer we accepted a bid from Cardiff that could have been worth in excess of £500,000 but it was dependant in part on certain performances. "The offer from Wednesday is a good clean offer. We've told them their offer is acceptable and it's down to Kris to decide if he can agree personal terms and if he wants to join them." Source: Sky Sports

Cash-strapped Kilmarnock look set to miss a Christmas windfall - after penny-pinching Rangers offered just £200,000 for Kris Boyd. Sports Record can reveal the Ibrox club tabled their offer last week - BEFORE Sheffield Wednesday bid £500,000 for the young striker on Friday.
Killie chairman Michael Johnston instantly accepted Wednesday's offer but the Rugby Park club are powerless to make Boyd agree a move to Hillsborough when his heart is set on Ibrox. Johnston now faces the nightmare scenario of accepting the cut-price Rangers offer or losing Boyd to them for nothing in the summer when he will be available on a Bosman transfer. Rangers may attempt to sweeten the deal by offering Stevie Thompson on loan until the end of the season but that will be scant consolation to a club battling against financial meltdown.
